Woking has been rebuilt: how to get found by the people moving in

How a Woking business gets found by the thousands moving into the new flats around the station, area by area, from Horsell to West Byfleet.

Short answerHow a Woking business gets found by the thousands moving into the new flats around the station, area by area, from Horsell to West Byfleet.

Who is moving in

The towers and terraces around Victoria Place and the station are full of people who arrived recently, mostly commuters, mostly renting or in their first bought flat, and none of them have a plumber. When the boiler goes they search, on a phone, on the train home, and book the first business that looks competent and answers.

How Woking searches

The town centre searches “Woking”. Everyone else searches their own area. Horsell, Goldsworth Park, Knaphill, West Byfleet, Byfleet, Pyrford, Mayford, Brookwood, Old Woking: each is its own search with its own small set of competitors. Ranking for “Woking” is a fight with national firms. Ranking for “Horsell” is not.

The easy wins

A page for each area you cover, written properly. Correct service area on your Google Business Profile. Reviews from customers who mention their part of Woking. A site that loads in a second on a phone, because the people searching here are impatient by nature.

The commuter angle

Woking customers book online more than most. They want a form, a WhatsApp button or a booking link, not a phone number and office hours. Make it possible to book you at 10pm from a train seat and you win a lot of work that phone-only competitors never see.

Searches worth targeting in Woking

These are the kinds of searches a Woking business can realistically rank for within a few months, because they are specific and lightly contested. Each one wants its own page, or its own paragraph on the right page.

  • “plumber Horsell”
  • “electrician near me”, typed on a phone in Knaphill
  • “cleaner West Byfleet”
  • “plumber Woking” and “plumber GU21”

The pattern is the same for every trade: the town, the village, and the job, in the words a customer would type. Nobody types “bespoke solutions”. They type “plumber Horsell”.

A first month for a Woking business

Week one. Claim and tidy the Google Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed, the service area set to Horsell, Knaphill, West Byfleet, Byfleet and the rest of your patch, real photos, correct hours. Ask your last five happy customers for a review, with the direct link.

Week two. A proper Woking page on your site, written about the town, not a paragraph with the name swapped in. Your reviews on it. Your real photos. Phone number and message button at the top.

Week three. Pages for the two or three villages where you already do the most work, for example Horsell, Knaphill, West Byfleet, Byfleet. Each written for that place. Set them as the service area on your profile so the two match.

Week four. A post on your profile, two more review requests, and a check in Search Console of what you are already appearing for. Then add the next village.
