Epsom: beating the London firms by being visibly local

Short answerEpsom sits on the edge of London and south London firms will travel out for a job. How a local business wins by being visibly local.
The competition is different here
In most Surrey towns your competitors are other local businesses. In Epsom, Ewell and Stoneleigh they include firms from Sutton, Croydon and further in, with bigger advertising budgets and a willingness to drive out. You do not beat them on budget. You beat them on being local.
What visibly local looks like
Pages for Epsom, Ewell, Stoneleigh, Ashtead, Langley Vale and Tattenham Corner, each written for that place. Reviews from customers who say where they live. Photos of jobs on recognisable streets. A local number if you have one. Your Google Business Profile with an Epsom address and the right service area.
Speed and phones
London firms tend to have heavy, corporate sites. A local site that loads in a second on a phone and puts a call button at the top wins the urgent searches, which are most of them.
The racecourse and the Downs
Langley Vale, Tattenham Corner and the houses around the Downs are a market of their own, and a lightly contested one. Worth a page.
Searches worth targeting in Epsom
These are the kinds of searches a Epsom business can realistically rank for within a few months, because they are specific and lightly contested. Each one wants its own page, or its own paragraph on the right page.
- “electrician Ewell”
- “plumber near me”, typed on a phone in Ashtead
- “cleaner Langley Vale”
- “roofer near me”, typed on a phone in Tattenham Corner
- “electrician Epsom” and “electrician KT17”
The pattern is the same for every trade: the town, the village, and the job, in the words a customer would type. Nobody types “bespoke solutions”. They type “electrician Ewell”.
A first month for a Epsom business
Week one. Claim and tidy the Google Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed, the service area set to Ewell, Ashtead, Langley Vale, Tattenham Corner and the rest of your patch, real photos, correct hours. Ask your last five happy customers for a review, with the direct link.
Week two. A proper Epsom page on your site, written about the town, not a paragraph with the name swapped in. Your reviews on it. Your real photos. Phone number and message button at the top.
Week three. Pages for the two or three villages where you already do the most work, for example Ewell, Ashtead, Langley Vale, Tattenham Corner. Each written for that place. Set them as the service area on your profile so the two match.
Week four. A post on your profile, two more review requests, and a check in Search Console of what you are already appearing for. Then add the next village.
