Redhill: a busy town most local businesses under-serve online

Short answerRedhill is busier and younger than Reigate next door, and easier to rank in. How a Redhill business owns Merstham, Earlswood and Salfords.
A different customer from Reigate
Redhill is younger, busier and more mixed than Reigate next door. New flats around the station, families in Merstham and Earlswood, and the commercial side along the A23 and around the Gatwick approach. It searches for everyday services, often and urgently.
Why it is easier
Most established businesses in the area put their effort into ranking for Reigate. Redhill, Merstham, Salfords, Earlswood and Nutfield get a mention in a list at best. A page for each, written properly, meets very little competition.
The Gatwick side
Horley and the Gatwick approach are a few minutes down the A23 and full of work. A Redhill business that covers them should have a Horley page, and its Google Business Profile should say so.
What to do
A Redhill page that is actually about Redhill, not a copy of the Reigate one. Pages for Merstham, Earlswood, Salfords and Nutfield. Horley if you go there. Reviews from Redhill customers. A fast site with a form that reaches your phone.
Searches worth targeting in Redhill
These are the kinds of searches a Redhill business can realistically rank for within a few months, because they are specific and lightly contested. Each one wants its own page, or its own paragraph on the right page.
- “cleaner Merstham”
- “electrician near me”, typed on a phone in Earlswood
- “plumber Salfords”
- “cleaner Redhill” and “cleaner RH1”
The pattern is the same for every trade: the town, the village, and the job, in the words a customer would type. Nobody types “bespoke solutions”. They type “cleaner Merstham”.
A first month for a Redhill business
Week one. Claim and tidy the Google Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed, the service area set to Merstham, Earlswood, Salfords, Nutfield and the rest of your patch, real photos, correct hours. Ask your last five happy customers for a review, with the direct link.
Week two. A proper Redhill page on your site, written about the town, not a paragraph with the name swapped in. Your reviews on it. Your real photos. Phone number and message button at the top.
Week three. Pages for the two or three villages where you already do the most work, for example Merstham, Earlswood, Salfords, Nutfield. Each written for that place. Set them as the service area on your profile so the two match.
Week four. A post on your profile, two more review requests, and a check in Search Console of what you are already appearing for. Then add the next village.
