Haslemere: winning the newcomers in a town that runs on reputation

Haslemere runs on reputation, which is hard on a new business. The newcomers arriving from London are the opening, and they search.

Short answerHaslemere runs on reputation, which is hard on a new business. The newcomers arriving from London are the opening, and they search.

How Haslemere works

Established residents have a builder, a gardener and a dentist they have used for years and recommend to friends. Breaking in through word of mouth takes a decade. But the town is changing, with families arriving from London every month, and they have nobody to ask.

A family that moved into Hindhead last month searches for everything: a roofer, a gardener, a dentist, a cleaner, a physio. They read reviews, look at photos and choose. A Haslemere business with a proper site and reviews on it becomes their default, and then their friends’ default.

The three-county patch

Hindhead, Grayshott and Beacon Hill, Fernhurst on the Sussex side, Liphook and Bramshott in Hampshire, Chiddingfold and Witley towards Godalming. A page for each, and a Google Business Profile that lists them.

Look established

Calm design, real photos, reviews with names, a clear list of services. Haslemere expects a certain standard and a site that meets it does most of the persuading before anyone calls.

Searches worth targeting in Haslemere

These are the kinds of searches a Haslemere business can realistically rank for within a few months, because they are specific and lightly contested. Each one wants its own page, or its own paragraph on the right page.

  • “landscaper Wey Hill”
  • “roofer near me”, typed on a phone in Hindhead
  • “dentist Grayshott”
  • “landscaper Haslemere” and “landscaper GU26”

The pattern is the same for every trade: the town, the village, and the job, in the words a customer would type. Nobody types “bespoke solutions”. They type “landscaper Wey Hill”.

A first month for a Haslemere business

Week one. Claim and tidy the Google Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed, the service area set to Wey Hill, Hindhead, Grayshott, Beacon Hill and the rest of your patch, real photos, correct hours. Ask your last five happy customers for a review, with the direct link.

Week two. A proper Haslemere page on your site, written about the town, not a paragraph with the name swapped in. Your reviews on it. Your real photos. Phone number and message button at the top.

Week three. Pages for the two or three villages where you already do the most work, for example Wey Hill, Hindhead, Grayshott, Beacon Hill. Each written for that place. Set them as the service area on your profile so the two match.

Week four. A post on your profile, two more review requests, and a check in Search Console of what you are already appearing for. Then add the next village.

This is what we do in the build for every client and keep up every month on the care plan, so if you would rather have it done, ask for a free demo.

The same approach works in Godalming, Cranleigh, Farnham, with different villages and different competition.
